New season of 'American Idol' starts with a bang!

American Idol returned in style this week with the help of host Ryan Seacrest and new American Idol judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie.

Erstwhile competition host, Ryan Seacrest [VIDEO], signed on early last spring, but the finalized judging panel of Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie didn't sign on the dotted line to take their seats until the fall a year ago. Despite her Mary Katherine Gallagher demeanor, Turner played them her original song, "21 Century Machine". She gets thee yeses and a golden ticket to Hollywood.

Next up is a man who escaped from the Congo with his family when he was only 10 years old. Lionel changes his vote and sends him to Hollywood!

THR adds that Fox "certainly tried to sabotage ABC's plan to relaunch its former flagship". So far they all all seem to be playing nice with each other, so if you're looking for any hint of cracks in Idol's fairly squeaky clean facade, you'll just have to wait and see how headlines involving Seacrest and Perry's respective scandals and controversies pan out in the days to come. The most successful singing competition show may be on a new network and have a new panel of judges, but it still feels like the same Idol that us diehard fans love so much.

Her next step? Heading back to Nashville. Six years ago, Grace sang the worst National Anthem of all-time.

William Casanova, 26, Washington, DC: A woman's shoe salesman, he charmed the judges with his smooth, flirtatious personality, and earned a golden ticket by singing Donny Hathaway's "A Song For You". Only time will tell if that strength will keep her in good stead under heavy competition. And there's also Christina Jones, an 18-year-old who should be commended for her audition.

He admits to the judges that he's never kissed a girl, and gets knocked for a loop when Katy tricks him into a kiss on the lips. The judges don't think he's ready for Hollywood, but at least he got a first kiss out of the deal. Davis sang Rihanna and Mikky Ekko's "Stay" on the piano for his audition and commanded the room. Noah, meanwhile, immediately wins them over with his sparkling personality and his unusual desire to own an alpaca. Trevor sang Brett Young's "In Case You Didn't Know", changing the lyrics to "In case you didn't know/Katy, I'm insane 'bout you". Once we get to Laila's actual audition, she sings "Who's Loving You".

But this time, Julica had her biggest supporter with her, her 2-year-old daughter Mikova.

The show saves the best for last: 26-year-old Philly native Dennis Lorenzo.

Equally impressive is Dennis' smooth rendition of Allen Stone's "Unaware".

Jokes aside, it really was all fun and games and, in the end, the judges gave Sussett a golden ticket to Hollywood, because they thought she was super fun. For a quick recap of the week, here are some of the highlights you just won't want to miss!

American Idol airs Sunday and Monday nights at 8/7c on ABC.
