Nimbus Data unveils 100TB SSD

This allowed the company to squeeze all that data into a standard 3.5-inch form factor, meaning that you could in theory use it as a plug-and-play replacement for your computer or server if you need extra storage. Using 3D NAND, the DC100 provides enough flash capacity to store 20 million songs, 20,000 HD movies, or 2,000 iPhones worth of data in a device small enough to fit in your back pocket. A data center could hold 100 petabytes of data in a single rack instead of needing large swaths of server room space. The DC100's low-power (0.1 watts/TB) and portability also make it well-suited for edge and IoT applications.

This SSD model offers up to 500Mbps throughput with up to 100,000 input/output operations per second (IOps).

The ExaDrive DC100 (which will also be offered in a 50TB flavor) has a five year warranty and is guaranteed for "unlimited endurance" during that period. The drive is capable of sequential read and write speeds of up to 500MB/s.

Other features of note include quad ECC controllers, embedded capacitors to aid in protecting data in case of power loss and a mean time between failures (MTBF) of 2.5 million hours.

Pricing is not yet available, but the ExaDrive DC100 is scheduled to be widely available for customers by Summer 2018. Nimbus Data says that that dollar-per-GB pricing will be comparable to existing MLC SSDs. It is now sampling to strategic customers and will be generally available in summer 2018. It's suggested the cost will be similar to current enterprise SSDs on a per terabyte basis, which is code for "it will be extraordinarily expensive", at least initially. This TCO advantage factors in the superior endurance, balanced read/write performance, power savings, cooling savings, rack space savings, component reduction, and lower refresh costs. According to Nimbus Data, this performance also helps improve CPU performance by "50 percent or more".
