Pakistan says India's deputy high commissioner summoned

According to news agencies NA/PA, Zarif noted that Iran considers the security and stability of the neighboring countries as its own.

Zarif's visit to Pakistan will greatly contribute to building trust and expanding bilateral cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad, she said.

Iran and Saudi Arabia have been at odds since the conflict arose in Syria in 2011. The move may be seen as Zarif's bid to allay concerns here over the Indian involvement in the Iranian port, Dawn online reported.

Speaking at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad, Foreign minister, Javad Zarif who is on a three day visit to Islamabad asked Pakistan to play a role in developing the port. The Iranian minister also, meanwhile, extended the invitation to China. These caveats must be deliberated as the $62 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor approaches completion, with expansions already being explored such as between Gwadar and Chabahar. Iran's handing of the port's operational control to India was disappointing for Pakistan and taking part in Chabahar may engender problems moving forward. The visiting Foreign Minister is being accompanied by a large trade delegation from Iran. Iran's invitation to Pakistan to help develop its Chabahar seaport project brings good tidings and may be the most pivotal yet in terms of further strengthening this relationship. The considerations go beyond economic gain because of the triad of relations between Pakistan and Iran, Iran and India, and India and Pakistan.

On the first day of his visit to Islamabad on Monday, Mr. Zarif held meetings with Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, his Pakistani counterpart Minister for Foreign Affairs Khawaja Muhammad Asif, the Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, and Pakistani Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal.

Sources in India also said that on February 16, the Indian High Commissioner met the Foreign Secretary of Pakistan to lodge a strong protest against multiple acts of hooliganism against Indian properties and personnel.
