Ronald De Boer wades into spat between brother Frank and Jose Mourinho

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has labelled Frank de Boer the "worst manager in the history of the Premier League", after the Dutchman criticised his handling of Marcus Rashford.

Rashford hadn't scored for United prior to the Liverpool game since December, but manager Jose Mourinho kept him in the playing XI.

And a crucial aspect of Rashford's immediate impact came from the fact Mourinho took him out of the spotlight for some time. You want to see this player every week'.

The Red Devils are back in action on Tuesday night, when they face LaLiga outfit Sevilla for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie, which is finely poised at 0-0.

De Boer took charge of Palace at the start of this season, but was sacked following seven defeats in his first seven games - without his side scoring a single league goal. If he was coached by Frank, he would learn to lose because he lost every game. The brace on his Manchester United debut followed by another two on Premier League debut, the Manchester derby victor, an England debut goal and Sunday's double against Liverpool instantly come to mind. "I would say he was in the top five with more matches for two seasons", Mourinho said.

Mourinho went on to credit United's academy staff and his predecessor Louis van Gaal for their role in Rashford's development and insisted the player remains in safe hands under his own leadership.

'I try to give the best to the kid.

The 20-year-old frontman has been used sparingly by Mourinho this season but marked his return to the starting line-up with a match-clinching double against rivals Liverpool on Saturday. "In the last eight you start smelling the semi-finals". When a team gets into the last eight, the feeling is you are among the best and anything can happen.

Paul Pogba returns to the squad after a minor injury, but the club's record signing must do with a place among the replacements.

Midfielder Michael Carrick, meanwhile, has announced his intention to retire at the end of the season. "It's kind of been sorted out but we're still talking about it so there is nothing to totally confirm yet", he said.
