Sky Sports suspends Jamie Carragher after spitting video

The incident came after one of the occupants of the vehicle appeared to goad him about Liverpool's Premier League defeat at Manchester United.

The girl tells her father "he spat on me", to which he responds: "Jamie Carragher spat at my daughter. nice, nice, very nice Jamie Carragher".

On Monday afternoon, the 40-year-old pundit appeared on Sky Sports to apologise for his actions.

The football pundit, who has a daughter the same age as the girl who was caught up in the incident, said his behaviour "cannot be condoned" and became visibly upset when he was asked what his children thought of his behaviour.

In an initial tweet on Sunday night, he wrote: "Totally out of order and I've apologised personally to all the family this evening".

One wrote: "For me the father is to blame for driving in a auto with his daughter and filming an ex-footballer".

Carragher also went on Sky News and discussed the video, saying it was a "moment of madness" and "a bad stain on me and my character, my career".

The 14-year-old sitting in the passenger seat claimed some of the spit had hit her and, in a statement, Sky said they had suspended Carragher for actions "well below the standards we expect of our people".

Jamie Carragher's hopes of avoiding the sack by Sky Sports have received a timely lift after the family he spat at insisted they did not want him to lose his job. We wanted an apology and explanation, the dad told The Mirror. No excuses he's made a big mistake.

Sky Sports suspended commentator Jamie Carragher after the UK Mirror published video footage of him spitting at a man and his 14-year-old daughter.

While his wife added: 'He did seem extremely sorry'. He's massively passionate about football and he's overstepped the mark and shouldn't have reacted.

It's worth noting that Gary Lineker's light-hearted message about Carragher's suspension was followed up with a serious tweet just moments later.

"I've been on TV for three years with him and imo [in my opinion] this isolated incident shouldn't stop us working together".
