Snapchat Reportedly Loses $800 Million After Rihanna Slams Offensive Ad

If you remember what Rihanna's face looked like after the domestic dispute between her and then boyfriend Chris Brown then you'll instantly pick up on why this isn't amusing whatsoever.

One of the would-you-rathers-which asked users to choose whether they would prefer to "slap Rihanna" or "punch Chris Brown"-drew criticism from users of the app, as well as from Rihanna herself, whose callout post on Instagram apparently cost the app $800 million".

Her comment sent Snapchat's stock down 6 percent, wiping $1.3 billion off the company's market value.

Brown was convicted of assaulting Rihanna in 2009 when they were in a relationship.

Brown was sentenced to five years of probation following the assault.

The ad was met by a huge backlash among users, with Rihanna responding by slamming the app via her Instagram story.

Snapchat said it is investigating how the ad for a mobile video game called "Would You Rather" made it to the app.

"I'm just trying to figure out what the point was with this mess!" "She accused the service of "[spending] money to animate something that would intentionally bring shame to domestic violence victims". "I'd love to call it ignorance but I know you ain't that dumb".

Snapchat's stock took a dive after Rihanna told the company to "throw the whole app-oligy away".

A spokesman for Snapchat said: "This advertisement is disgusting and never should have appeared on our service". It added, "We are so sorry we made the bad mistake of allowing it through our review process". Although, the deed is already done as Snapchat's stock plummeted by almost 4 percent by the end of Thursday when Rihanna's post went live.

Rihanna's negative public statement comes just a few weeks after Kylie Jenner complained about Snap's redesign.

Kim Kardashian's half-sister had tweeted to her 24.5 million followers: "sooo does anyone else not open Snapchat anymore?"
