Trump lawyer ignores porn star's offer to return hush money

An adult film actress who said she had sex with President Donald Trump has offered to return the $130,000 she was paid for agreeing not to discuss their alleged relationship.

Daniels' lawyer, Michael Avenatti, on Monday proposed a deal with Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen in which Daniels - whose real name is Stephanie Clifford - would repay the $130,000 in hush money she got for signing the agreement if Team Trump would stop trying to keep her quiet. It also threatens to erode the president's support among evangelical voters.

"We do not believe it is appropriate for her to preside over this case, which obviously involves the president, in light of this fact", said Michael Avenatti, who represents Daniels. The group claims it is an illegal campaign contribution because of the size and goal of the payment.

In exchange for the cash, Daniels would be permitted to "speak openly and freely about her prior relationship with the president and the attempts to silence her", and use any text messages, photos, videos or other materials in her possession, Avenatti said Monday in announcing the offer.

Jackson told The News in a brief conversation Friday that she could not recall the document and declined to be interviewed. Neither immediately responded to comment requests.

He contended Daniels always meant to remain silent, until Trump's lawyer, Michael Cohen, began giving interviews and bringing the matter to public light.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders told a briefing last week that Trump had won an arbitration proceeding against Clifford.

Avenatti filed a lawsuit last week in Los Angeles, claiming Trump never signed the nondisclosure agreement that his lawyer made with her, rendering it null and void, and making public the agreement and related documents.

Clifford could face a US$1 million penalty if she breaks the nondisclosure agreement.
