WhatsApp's Update Enables Voice-To-Video Call Switching, Addition of Group Description

Along with the admin, the new feature will allow all users of the group to change the Group Description. While the feature to add group descriptions isn't a huge update, it could prove beneficial for a certain type of WhatsApp chats, for instance, when creating an event.

The Group Description feature allows you to add a description of up to 500 characters to the group. Along with features mentioned above, the WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that will allow the users to switch between voice and video calls without disconnected the ongoing call.

It is being further reported that the new set of features were made available for various beta versions of the app in the past few weeks. This feature works similar to how we add description to our personal profiles.

The Group Description option is available below the group photo and group name. The group description is visible right above the "Join Group" button. After you change the description of the group, everyone in the group including yourself will get a notification stating - "Sneha changed the group description". Users can also search for names of the people in the group chat. The feature, when started, was a part of the WhatsApp beta version 2.18.54 on Android and WhatsApp beta version 2.18.28 on Windows Phone.

Recent roll-outs by the instant messaging platform include features like Delete for Everyone message option, WhatsApp Status option, Share your live location option, among others. This feature, as the name suggests lets users simultaneously switch between voice and video calls. To toggle between the voice and video call, users will have to tap on a tab that will appear during a call.

WhatsApp for Android has been updated with an aim at encouraging group chats and making it easier. Instead, they can simply switch from voice to video calls and vice versa.
