Fayose's ex-deputy joins Ekiti gov race

The Minister of Mines and Steel Development and governorship hopeful in Ekiti, Kayode Fayemi, has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) will deploy all resources at its disposal to wrestle power from incumbent, Governor Ayodele Fayose in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

According to the statement, Fayemi's letter conveying his intention to run was addressed to the national chairman of APC, John Oyegun; national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu; former interim national chairman of the party, Bisi Akande; all traditional rulers in Ekiti state; his colleagues in the Federal Executive Council (FEC); former and serving governors elected on APC platform, as well as prominent sons and daughters of Ekiti.

He however assured that whoever emerged from the party's primaries would be supported by other aspirants to ensure victory at the polls.

He said by virtue of his upbringing, belief and academic exposure, he will never subscribe to illegality and will not be party to a rancorous primary but subject himself to a free, fair and transparent primary.

"My convictions about how much more is possible in Ekiti stem not from any sense of entitlement but from a sense of service of obligation and posterity that positioned us for a time like this".

A former deputy to Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State in his first term, Chief Abiodun Aluko, has formally joined the July 14 governorship race on the platform of the Mega Party of Nigeria. They will accuse us of using federal might, but we will not care.

Premium Times reports that Fayemi, who is the immediate past governor of Ekiti state, gave the notification on Thursday, April 12, after a tour of local governments in the state.

Aluko said, "We must ensure that we get our voter cards and vote out a government that is not sensitive to the plight of the masses".

"Let me say this, I am a loyal party man and I am ready to support whoever the party fields as the candidate", he assured.

"We are not on the march again because of a title".

On the rising acrimony among the aspirants, the Minister said: "It is absolutely unacceptable for aspirants to indulge in abuses and use intemperate languages against one another". That is why it is important for us to be united.

"Our minister has been supportive of the party".
