Know All About Earth Day 2018, Themed 'End Plastic Pollution'

And how can one honour Mother Earth this weekend? The city government plans to hold a series of forums at five universities on reducing the use of plastic, with Plastics Industry Development Center manager Hsu Hsiang-jui (許祥瑞) to launch the events at the University of Taipei on May 7.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the occasion of Earth Day asked people to "pledge to keep our environment clean". Various events were organised and people came out to the streets to reaffirm their support for protecting the environment. The event mobilized more than 200 million people across different countries and the issue of environmental protections became an global issue.

The theme for this year's Earth day is, "End Plastic Pollution", which shows the concern about how plastic is used, and since it isn't a degradable source, it causes harm to the environment.

As we celebrate Earth Day today, there is a pressing need to realise that climate change is as real as it gets, and it comes in various manifestation with havoc effects like food insecurity, rise in sea level and extreme weather conditions.

The motto is to make people understand about the pollution created due to plastics so that the consumption of plastic can be lessened as far as possible.
