Biplab Deb's latest: Rabindranath Tagore refused Nobel to protest British rule

In a video getting circulated societal networking, the 46-year-old main minister is telling his crowd that "Rabindra Nath Tagore came back his nobel-prize in protest against the British".

However, Chief Minister Deb refused to make any comment on the controversy and requested oppositions to contribute in the process of development keeping aside unnecessary discussion to divert the attention of the people of the state. While addressing the event, Deb said that Tagore had given away his Noble Prize award to mark his protest against the British rule. A video of him making the statement emerged on social media on Wednesday. His Nobel medallion, in fact, graced a museum at Shantiniketan until 2004, when it was allegedly stolen.

While this is not the first time Deb has made a gaffe, his "ignorance" about Tagore and Nobel has baffled many. The then chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had handed over the case to the CBI but the agency in 2009 had closed the probe, citing a lack of fresh leads.

He refused to accept Knighthood in protest against the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919. As per reports, the CM of Tripura said, "He said, "Every household should have a cow".

Biplab Deb made this blunder while addressing a gathering and the media on the occasion of Rabindranath Tagore's birth anniversary in Udaipur. He said she was "not an Indian beauty", and praised Aishwarya Rai as the "true representative of Indian women". "Applicants should not pursue government jobs, they need to commence paan shop instead", he declared.

Not stopping there, he stated that mechanical engineers should not opt for civil services, but civil engineers should, for logic best known to him.
