Bought an iPhone Battery Last Year? Apple Has a $50 Refund

If you replaced your iPhone battery past year and paid full price, Apple is offering you $50 back. The company found that the iPhone 6 is 3.3 times more likely to bend than the iPhone 5s, and the iPhone 6 Plus is 7.2 times more likely to bend than the iPhone 5s, according to the documents.

Apple is offering a $50 credit to iPhone customers who paid for an out-of-warranty battery replacement in 2017, who would be affected by the battery performance throttling saga but had already had their battery replaced before #batterygate happened at the end of the year.

Apple Canada has confirmed the launch of a $64 CAD out-of-warranty battery replacement credit in Canada.

Note that this doesn't apply to anyone who had the battery replaced while it was covered by Apple's warranty.

In December a year ago, Apple admitted that it had deliberately slowed down some older iPhones with worn out batteries.

Anyone that's eligible for the credit will be contacted before 27 July. New court documents uncovered by Motherboard today (May 24) show that Apple actually knew the phones would bend considerably more than the iPhone 5s before it released the phones. This brings the price down to $29, which is the same it would cost to get a replacement now.

Apple says that this Rs 3,900 will be transferred electronically or will be credited if the payment was made via credit cards.

If, though, someone paid the full price for their own out-of-warranty fix, they're now in line to get a partial refund. Several iPhone users sued Apple over this.

Apple's "iPhone out-of-warranty battery replacement credit" covers replacements at any Apple-authorized fix center from January 1 through December 28, 2017. If you believe you are eligible for the refund and aren't contacted via email by August 1, 2018, you will need to make sure you contact Apple Support before the cutoff date of December 31, 2018.
