Donald Glover's Lando Calrissian Solo Film Idea Shut Down By LucasFilm

Donald Glover's Lando Calrissian Solo Film Idea Shut Down By LucasFilm

The original story, from Premiere France, quoted Kennedy as stating that: "We think that the next spinoff will be dedicated to Lando Calrissian".

If a Lando film moves forward, what story would you like it to tell?

Solo is the first in a potential series of films, with Ehrenreich signing on for three instalments, although it's unclear whether that might include an appearance in a Lando movie. "My dad imprinted me with this kind of Star Wars longing, because it does feel like the Bible to me in a lot of ways".

Premiere France has since adjusted their article due to the enormous backlash they've received. It's to tell whether this was a slip from the journalist or if Kathleen Kennedy revealed too much and is backtracking. "Of course, there are still many stories to tell about Han and Chewbacca, but Lando will be next".

"UPDATE: io9 contacted Lucasfilm and confirmed that the quote wasn't translated correctly, with a rep saying: "[Kennedy] said it's something she'd like to do one day in the future". So while Lucasfilm isn't confirming it's the next spinoff film coming, it's certainly a story the studio is interested in telling.

As host, he was there to promote his role as young Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story. A solo Lando movie will give Glover a chance to explore the aspects of the charismatic character that may have informed his performance but have yet to be fully explored on screen.

He's not even hit the big screen in that dashing cape and riding boot combo, but Donald Gloover best get the deck stacked in Lando Calrissian's favour - both on and off screen.

LucasFilm have always been rumoured to be planning sequels for Solo, but it presumably depends on how the movie fares at the box office when it opens later this month.
