Girl, 17, plotted grenade attack on British Museum, court told

Duncan Atkinson, QC, opening the case for the prosecution, said Saffa's arrest meant she could no longer put her "chilling" intentions into action.

Mr Atkinson told the court: 'All preparation for Rizlaine's attack followed discussions with her sister who encouraged and supported her every step towards the kind of terrorist outrage that the timely intervention of the authorities had stopped Safaa from undertaking herself'.

She was so determined to attack London that she enlisted the help of her older sister after she was charged with planning to go to Syria, the Old Bailey heard on Thursday.

Prosecutors said the sisters and their mother Mina Dich, 43, had carried out reconnaissance around major landmarks in Westminster and purchased a pack of knives and a rucksack.

But within days, she was charged with planning to go to Syria and was unable to carry out her "chilling intentions", Atkinson told the court.

Mr Atkinson said the death of Hussain "strengthened" Safaa Bouler's "determination".

Mina Dich accepts that she provided "positive assistance and support" to Rizlaine in the knowledge that she would commit an attack using knives, but claims she did not understand that the attack would involve fatality or injury, the court heard. In August 2016, barely three months after she had met him, she declared her love for him, and vowed to travel to Syria, where the two would blow themselves up with suicide belts. He said: "Their plan then was that together they would, as Hussain put it, depart the world holding hands and taking others with them in an act of terrorism".

She has since pleaded guilty to terrorism offences.

The trio were arrested on April 27 past year in raids by counter-terrorism police, during which Rizlaine Boular was shot.

She also had an image captioned "Sisterhood in jihad, where we fight together get martyred together and fly together inshallah" and revealed to police she had struck up a friendship with Isil's female recruiter, Umm Isa Al-Amriki, who was based in Aleppo.

He added: 'She planned to launch an attack in the environs of that cultural jewel the British Museum.

An attack would have caused at least widespread panic and was meant to cause injury and death, the court was told.

Joel Bennathan, QC for the defense claimed that Safaa, who was a minor at the time, had been "groomed" over the internet by Mr Hussain.

Safaa showed no emotion as the trial began yesterday, occasionally flicking her hair behind her ears during the hearing.

Whilst Rizlaine and her mother have admitted to preparing acts of terrorism, Safaa denies the two counts of preparing acts of terrorism against her.
