Grand Theft Auto V Hits Mammoth Number, Sky is Also Blue

With this amount of copies sold, Grand Theft Auto V remains as the third best-selling title in history, being surpassed by Minecraft (144 million copies) and Tetris (170 million copies).

Revenue in the three months ended in March fell to $450.3 million, yielding earnings per share of 77 cents. Grand Theft Auto V is now one of the best selling games of all time, surpassed only by Minecraft and Tetris. The game regularly charts in the weekly and monthly top 10 sales charts in the US, UK, and Australia/New Zealand, which is incredible considering it came out in 2013. These are counted in Take-Two's "recurrent consumer spending category", which saw its performance grow year-over-year.

Publisher Take-Two made the announcement during a recent earnings call, where company CEO and chairman Strauss Zelnick stated that the game has a lot to owe its GTA Online multiplayer mode and the core campaign as well.

Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick offered his two pence as to why the game continues to prove so popular, saying it demonstrates how Rockstar has managed to 'make the title easy to approach but hard to master'.

"I think what Rockstar Games has uniquely shown the ability to do is to make the title easy to approach and hard to master", he said.

In April, Rockstar has announced Grand Theft Auto V: Premium Online Edition, a new edition of the company's most successful title that is now available in its physical format for PS4 and Xbox One and hit in its digital form the other consoles and PC's stores at the end of the month. As we told you before, it is a version that includes the base game, as well as several bonuses for Grand Theft Auto Online. If you're somewhat more casual, you can find the experience super compelling.
