Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold relishing clash with Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo

Dominic Matteo thinks that Trent Alexander-Arnold simply has to start for Liverpool against Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

Jurgen Klopp's charges thrashed Brighton & Hove Albion 4-0 in their final Premier League game of the season on Sunday to finish in fourth position on the standings.

"We had to get the win".

"Trent Alexander-Arnold will be a top-class defender but we have seen a few occasions in recent months when the opposition have targeted him on the right side of the Liverpool defence", Aldridge wrote in his Irish Independent column.

"We have worked hard for it all season".

Alexander-Arnold has netted two goals and has made one assist in 10 Champions League outings this term.

"To get the chance to, especially 11 times, is an honour and I love doing it and hopefully I'll get the chance in the final".

Alexander-Arnold has featured in 32 games for his boyhood club across all competitions during 2017-18, taking his total number of first-team appearances to 43 - a tally he will strive to increase further in the years ahead.

After the win over the Seagulls, the 19-year-old was also presented with the young players' Golden Samba, which is a prestigious fans' award.

"You know a lot about him and the likes of (Lionel) Messi because you watch them on YouTube when you're growing up, you always watch those type of players. I'm really pleased with how it's gone this season and I want to play the last game as well".

"[This is] a dream come true", he told Liverpool's official website.

Whilst Alexander-Arnold admits it will be an honour to play against a star he once adulated, he will be relishing the test the three-time Balon d'Or victor presents. I enjoy it no matter what.
