Man attacks several people with knife in Paris; 2 dead, including attacker

The suspect, identified by authorities as Khamzat Azimov, was shot dead by police responding to the stabbing in central Paris just after 9 p.m. Saturday.

"This kind of sickness & hatred is not compatible with a loving, peaceful, & successful country!"

Terrorist Hasan Azimov who committed before the knife attack in Paris, was born in Chechnya, but has long lived in France, and this country made him a criminal, said on 13 may, the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov.

France has been on high alert over the last three years because of a string of terrorist attacks that have been commissioned or inspired by the Islamic State.

"It was scary", said Emma Klibbe, a 32-year old Australian who was waiting to get into a nearby restaurant and saw a man walk by who was injured in the attack. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families", White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said.

The right-wing party, whose members, namely Mr Wauquiez, have been accused of sharing the views of the French far-right, said that all foreigners on the government's terrorism "Fiche-S" watchlist should be deported while the "most dangerous" would-be jihadists on the list should be placed in preventive detention. We stand in solidarity with the French people and their government against this vicious act of terrorism, and pledge any assistance needed. He fatally knifed a 29-year-old man and wounded four others, among them a Chinese and a Luxembourg citizen, before police shot him dead. In June, police officers were assaulted by another Muslim extremist wielding a hammer near the Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris.

France has suffered a series of major Islamist attacks including the massacre at the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo in January 2015, followed 10 months later by the killing spree in Paris that claimed 130 lives. The AP reported the attacker's parents are in custody as well.

French Interior minister Gerard Collomb will hold a meeting with France's prefects in charge of defense and security later Monday. In addition to the person who died, two others were seriously injured and were transferred to George Pompidou Hospital, he added.
