Mom accused in Fairfield child abuse case in court today

The new allegations were laid out Wednesday after prosecutors charged Ina Rogers with nine counts of felony child abuse.

Rogers, 31, is set to be in court Wednesday morning when prosecutors will ask Judge William J. Pendergast III to amend the misdemeanor charge Rogers faces to include the new felony charges.

Her husband Jonathan Allen was arrested on Friday and booked on 9 counts of felony torture and 6 counts of felony youngster abuse.

Rogers said she feels the family is being judged for having so many children and choosing to home-school them. Sharon Henry, the county's chief deputy district attorney, said they were tortured "for sadistic purposes".

The charges allege that Rogers caused the children to be in a situation that was likely to produce great bodily injury and death.

Rogers was originally charged last month with child neglect but she bailed out of jail. They allowed them to shower only twice a year, and fed them one rationed meal a day.

In the six weeks since their mother's March arrest, the eight older children described to authorities several incidents of intentional abuse dating back to 2014, which resulted in puncture wounds, burns, bruising and injuries consistent with being shot with a BB or airsoft gun, police said.

Deputy District Attorney Veronica Juarez wrote that Rogers assisted in the abuse of the children by her husband, Jonathan Allen.

"My husband is an awesome person", she said.

"The children appeared to be skittish and spoke with speech impediments", she said.

All her children were then taken into protective custody by Solano County Child Welfare services and placed in the care of other family members, with whom they remain.

Larry Magney, who lives across the street on Fieldstone Court, told the San Francisco Chronicle that the couple moved in about a year ago. There, the children not only lived in filth but were victims of physical and emotional abuse.

But the mother, free on bail since early April, held a sort of news conference of her own Monday.

Rogers said she works as an EKG technician at a heart monitoring company and her husband is a tattoo artist. Officials took pictures of the children and interviewed them individually, she said. He told her it was unlikely her son was in his back yard because his dog would have barked, he said, according to the Chronicle. "There's no broken bones, there is no major scars, nothing".

Allen and Ina Rogers of Fairfield, California, have 10 children and are in jail on felony child abuse charges.

That conclusion was drawn after police received a report that the oldest child had gone missing. Solano County Public defenders office did not respond immediately to request for information on legal representation for Allen. "Rogers" family, including her brother and sister, sat in shock during the hearing.

Allen's mother, Peggy Allen, told the AP she had spoken to her son about the importance of housekeeping and Christian values - but that Allen avoided her and kept his relatives away from the children. "I am not an animal", Allen said.
