'So that's why I say yes, Patrick Vieira is ready to manage Arsenal'.

Arteta has been heavily touted with landing the role at Arsenal since it was announced that Arsene Wenger would be leaving the club.

New players may be arriving, and depending on the calibre of the new manager, numerous faces may be world class and considering Arsenal are not short of funds, the new boss would surely like to upgrade on the squad with some big names.

Arteta has risen to the top of the list to take the hot seat and his growing reputation while being assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City has caught the attention of Arsenal CEO Ivan Gazidis.

Arteta would seek to bring in at least three of his own appointments - with further backroom changes expected.

Vieira is also a firm favourite with Gunners' fans, having helped drive Wenger's Invincibles team through their unbeaten league season of 2003/2004.

Meanwhile, Pires and Vieira were teammates for six years at Arsenal.

He said: 'I have seen the shortlist: Allegri, Carlo Ancelotti, Mikel Arteta - why not? "I think all of them could manage Arsenal", he told BTSport.

"There's maybe a small advantage for Allegri and Ancelotti as they both have a lot of experience in Italy, Germany and England".

"It will be very hard for me [without Arsenal]", Wenger said.

Arsene Wenger has reiterated he will not take another job in the Premier League as it would feel like a betrayal of Arsenal.
