Police shut down woman who called 911 on black real estate investor

You've seen this movie (or, um, video) before.

Michael Hayes is a Memphis, Tennessee real estate investor who posted a amusing but sad video of the angry woman berating, threatening him and rushing him out of the neighborhood, reports the Daily Mail. Checking out of an Airbnb.

In the video, Hayes explains he was at the home, which is in shabby condition, to inspect it. The woman proceeds to yell insults at both Hayes and the officers at this point. He pointed to the sign he had placed in the front yard.

Albert said the house Hayes was investigating had been boarded up after people used drugs in it, and she did not want the boards to come down. "But she wasn't listening to that". Her partner adds, "He can take all day".

"No, he can take all day", the cop replied. Then she called the police.

"I'm really not sure what she wants me to do other than leave the neighborhood", Hayes continued.

He was rolling when a squad auto from the Memphis Police Department rolled up.

But when police showed up, they took Hayes' side after he explained that he had permission to be there.

"So we're out here at a house now, one of where we're under contract to pick up on, and for whatever reason, the neighbor has called the police on us", Hayes said to the camera before asking the woman if the cops said when they'd be coming. The woman gets angrier when she realizes the officers are not going to arrest Hayes.

"He's just gonna go in there and do what he's got to do".

Not only did officers tell Albert that Hayes had every right to do his job, but they also offered to stay with him while he finished taking pictures of the house (to ensure Albert wouldn't do anything off-hand). You're going to let him do what he's gotta do. "Regarding this specific incident, our officers responded and handled the situation accordingly".

It was just the latest incident in which the police were called on a black person doing seemingly normal things, such as moving into their apartment or napping in the common area of their college dorm.

"This type of stuff is still going on", he said in the video.

The Pauls Valley Democrat reports that the woman, identified as Tiffany Albert, says she was made to look like a racist in the video.

Newsweek has reached out to Hayes for comment, but did not hear back in time for publication.

"I'm Spanish", Albert said.
