Star Wars movie about Boba Fett being made

The feared bounty hunter Boba Fett will have his story told in a standalone movie from Lucasfilm.

The next character from the original Star Wars trilogy to get a whole feature to themselves will be the Mandalorian bounty hunter and right hand to Darth Vader Boba Fett, with a movie officially set to be directed by Logan director James Mangold.

According to the report, Mangold is said to be collaborating with Simon Kinberg, the writer and producer behind the X-Men franchise.

News was first revealed by Hollywood Reporter, ahead of the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story, which opened in Singapore cinemas yesterday (May 24).

The untitled movie will be a part of the studio's Star Wars Anthology films, which are being spun off as origin stories.

Variety first reported in August that Disney and Lucasfilm were in development on a spinoff movie centering on Obi-Wan Kenobi, with Stephen Daldry in negotiations to direct.

The possibility of a Boba Fett movie has been swirling for some time now.

Despite having very few lines and very little screen time, Boba Fett has gained cult status for his mysterious and cool - albeit nearly incidental - presence in the Star Wars films.

Mangold worked on X-Men films such as 2017's Logan, which he wrote and directed.

Mangold is repped by WME, Management 360, and Sloane Offer.

Solo: A Star Wars Story will likely have the lowest three-day (Friday through Sunday) tally, which we're projecting at $110.5 million, since Disney purchased LucasFilm in 2012.
