Steven Spielberg and Leonardo DiCaprio Could Be Teaming Up Again

We've been skeptical that Spielberg would actually direct Blackhawk ever since that project was announced, so if we're going with Option B.that's the one we'd expect to get sidelined (or, more likely, handed over to Michael Bay).

Deadline has learned that Academy Award winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Steven Spielberg are now in talks to work together again for the first time in over 15 years on a biopic about Union army General Ulysses S. Grant. As for DiCaprio, he hasn't been in a movie since 2015's The Revenant, for which he won his first Oscar. We'll stress again that the Grant team-up is still in early discussions since both award-winning filmmakers' schedules will likely be hard to reconcile.

The Hollywood star and director are said to be in early discussions about working on a biopic of former US President Ulysses S. Grant, which DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson are in line to produce. He is now prepping the fifth "Indiana Jones" movie, followed by "West Side Story".

DiCaprio's next project is Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," set against the backdrop of the 1969 Manson Family murders.

It was previously announced that DiCaprio's Appian Way shingle had acquired Ron Chernow's biography, Grant, and would be developing the project with Lionsgate. He played an instrumental role in securing victory for the Union Army during the American Civil War, under the of supervision of then-President Abraham Lincoln. Where Lincoln allowed him to explore the country's conflict from the highest office in the land, Grant could give Spielberg a more "boots on the ground" military approach. There's a lot to work with here, and in Chernow's book, so we'll have to wait and see if the material proves juicy enough to lure both Spielberg and DiCaprio back to the 19th century.
