Suzanne Scott to head Fox News

Suzanne Scott to head Fox News

Abernethy remains chief executive of the Fox Television Stations Group and will move to Los Angeles, where he will work more closely with the Fox broadcast network operation.

Suzanne Scott has been been elevated to chief executive officer of Fox News, the company announced Thursday. Fox News' sexual-harassment scandal led to the departure of Ailes.

Most recently, Scott served as the president of programming for both FOX News Channel & FBN and has been with FOX News since its inception almost 22 years ago.

Scott will be reporting to Lachlan Murdoch, chairman of Twenty First Century Fox, and the chairman and CEO of the proposed New Fox following Twenty First Century Fox's deal with Walt Disney Co.

Fox has been at or near the top of viewer rankings among the three United States cable news channels even as it has dealt with turmoil over the ousting of longtime chairman Roger Ailes - who subsequently died - and a series of sexual harassment claims against hosts and executives.

But she's no newcomer.

Scott is a 20-year veteran of the company. She worked on Greta Van Susteren's program when it aired on Fox, and helped create the "Outnumbered" program that airs at noon, and programs hosted by Dana Perino and Martha MacCallum. She had been sharing the title of president with Jack Abernethy, who will no longer have a role in the news operation.

She'll lead Fox as it tries to maintain its dominance in a market where Newsmax and Sinclair Broadcasting Group are becoming more aggressive in seeking a conservative audience.

The selection of Scott and Wallace represented a clear thumbs-up for how the network is being run. The promotion will also put him in charge of the opinion programming.
