Whitney Houston Documentary Trailer Features Bobby Brown, Cissy Houston, & More

It seems the producers held nothing back and dove deep into Houston's life to answer long-standing questions about her drug use, her turbulent marriage, and her relationship with Robyn Crawford who is referred to as her "safety net" in the trailer. Access has its advantages, however, and the film description teases never-before-seen archival footage, exclusive demo recordings, and rare performances from the iconic diva.

It also touches on her relationships with former husband Bobby Brown, mother Cissy Houston, longtime friend Robyn Crawford, Paula Abdul, Clive Davis, and her The Bodyguard co-star Kevin Costner. According to its synopsis, the film promises to be "an intimate, unflinching portrait of Houston and her family that probes beyond familiar tabloid headlines and sheds new light on the spellbinding trajectory of Houston's life".

After a teaser earlier this week the full trailer has arrived for Whitney ahead of its world premiere at Cannes this Thursday.

Drug addiction loomed large in Houston's life and contributed to her death, but in another gripping moment from the trailer, Reid denied he knew about the singer's struggle, despite working with her throughout the years.

"Paula Abdul ain't s-", she says to her mother. One choice clip shows Houston throwing shade at another pop star of her time.

The face, the smile, the voice: Whitney Houston was an American treasure who ended in American tragedy. "That girls is signing off-key on the record".

If you need us before then, we'll be refining our "I Will Always Love You" rendition. You can check it out the Miramax and Roadside Attractions in theaters (in North America) starting July 6. Watch the trailer below.
