Dukes of Hazzard star John Schneider ordered to jail in alimony dispute

John Schneider has checked himself into jail to begin serving his sentence for not paying spousal support to his ex-wife, Elvira.

He was incarcerated for failure to pay more than $150,000 in support payments to his wife Elvira, who asked the judge overseeing their bitter stand-off to consider putting Schneider behind bars back in February. At Schneider's February hearing, the judge reportedly ordered Schneider to transfer his Apple Valley property to Elvira and to resolve the property's tax liens.

Luckily for the 57-year-old actor, who is now known for his role in Smallville, he was released from jail on Tuesday (June 12) after just serving five hours of his sentence due to overcrowding. Most of his money went toward repairing his Holden studio, which was heavily damaged in the Louisiana flood of 2016, the report stated.

Schneider still faces the payments and community service.

Schneider married Castle in 1993, and have been separated since she filed for divorce in 2014.

In addition to their time on The Dukes of Hazzard, Schneider has had a career in country music.

Reps for Schneider did not immediately return Fox News' request for comment, but reports indicate that he could be in jail as early as Tuesday.

Schneider said he's "disheartened" with the system. They have three children together, two of which were Castle's children from a previous marriage.
