'F*** Trump!': Robert DeNiro denounces Trump at Tony Awards

De Niro has been on a roll this year when it comes to slamming Trump.

"It's no longer "down with Trump", it's "f**k Trump"!" he said.

Robert De Niro got himself a standing ovation when he called out, "I'm going to say one thing: F-- Trump!" at the Tony Awards in NY on Monday, but it seems not everyone was impressed by the 74-year-old actor's takedown of the US President.

"I apologize to Justin Trudeau and the other people at the G7", De Niro told the crowd.

In two tweets that announced the end of US support for the joint G-7 statement, Trump claimed Trudeau made "false statements" during a prior news conference and went on to lambaste the Canadian leader.

The president called Trudeau "disgusting" and "weak" for how he pushed back against steep tariffs imposed by the US on steel and aluminum imports from Canada and other trade allies.

At a groundbreaking for the soon-to-be Nobu restaurant and hotel in Toronto, Robert De Niro apologized to Canadians on Monday for the "idiotic behaviour" of U.S. President Donald Trump.

But Fox News host Brian Kilmeade had a different take, saying that De Niro's comments were yet another reason not to watch "Meet the Parents", a 2000 film in which De Niro co-starred.

Thompson noted that Trump says nasty things about his political opposition all the time, though Ruhle countered that the recent controversy with Samantha Bee shows that this kind of coarseness "hurts the argument" in political discourse. The actor, producer, and director has also played the special counsel Robert Mueller on "Saturday Night Live".

"Bruce, you can rock the house like nobody else", said De Niro.

Understandably, CBS, the network which broadcast the awards, bleeped the swearing leading some viewers to take to social media to question what he'd said and why it got a standing ovation.
