House Democrats seek criminal corruption probe of EPA's Pruitt

EPA spokeswoman Kelsi Daniell provided the Post with a statement in response to the newspaper's story that said, "Administrator Pruitt follows the same security protocol whether he's in his personal or official capacity".

Read the letter from the House Democrats.

You can hear Pruitt in the video (via NBC) commenting on how "here we are talking about free speech, religious liberty, and folks won't let you engage in it at times" as the protester is escorted out.

In a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray and Justice Department Criminal Division Chief John Cronan, the group of lawmakers argue that Pruitt repeatedly violated federal anti-corruption laws by using his position for personal gain, according to The Associated Press. "Administrator Pruitt has certainly done just that".

Pruitt in a statement called Hupp a "valued member of the EPA team from day one".

With regard to the Democratic letter, an EPA spokesperson referred requests for comment to Pruitt's outside counsel. "Companies represented by the firm of Pruitt's landlord also benefitted from EPA decisions during Pruitt's stay in the townhouse - the extent of which we still do not fully know", Beyer wrote, adding that "his actions related to his wife's employment and the quid-pro-quo condo situation with industry lobbyists may have crossed a line into criminal conduct punishable by fines or even by time in prison". "I love, she loves, we love Chick-fil-A as a franchise of faith", Pruitt said in a TV interview on Wednesday. "There's significant changes happening not only at the EPA but across the administration and it's needed", Pruitt told a reporter from Nextstar TV in Washington.

Pruitt's conduct and spending is the subject of about a dozen congressional and federal investigations. There have been additional stories this week about how Pruitt directed an aide to hunt for a used Trump hotel mattress and his security detail to find him a certain lotion only available at Ritz-Carlton hotels, presumably inspired by the time he spoke to the National Mining Association at the hotel in April of past year.
