Millie Bobby Brown Quits Twitter After Being Turned Into A Homophobic Meme

When it comes to the internet, no celebrity is safe from being meme'd, not even 14-year-old Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown.

Brown was extremely active on social media and a proud supporter of GLAAD's Together movement, which "represents unity and support to these communities which include LGBTQ, Muslim, immigrant communities, communities of color, women, and all those who find themselves disenfranchised for being who they are, because no one is just one identity and all of us are under attack". While numerous tweets directed at the actress have since been deleted, the tweets were said to have tried to label Brown as a violent homophobe by adding homophobic statements and slurs to her photos. Sartorius has not commented on social media about Brown's account deletion.

The reason behind the memes remains unclear, though several Twitter users have claimed they originated as an inside joke for LGBT tweeters.

Brown's secondary, anti-bullying Twitter account, @Milliestopshate, is still live, though.

In the wake of the incident, she has also disabled comments on her Instagram posts.

Brown will return to play Eleven in the upcoming third season of Netflix's Stranger Things.
