'The Nun' trailer: First look at 'Conjuring' prequel the stuff of nightmares

But judging by this trailer, Hardy's certainly got a bright future and I look forward to be scaring out of my mind by The Nun.

The new film is produced by Peter Safran and James Wan (who directed the first "Conjuring" movies and whose next project is 'Aquaman"), with a story from Wan and Gary Dauberman, who previously wrote the "Annabelle' movies.

The official synopsis reads "Vatican officials send a priest and a novitiate to investigate the suicide of a young nun in Romania".

The Nun stars Oscar-nominated Demian Bichir as Father Burke, Taissa Farmiga as Sister Irene, and Jonas Bloquet as local villager Frenchie.

It's been a good few years now since fans of The Conjuring were gifted with the second installment of the spooky horror franchise. Not only will their lives be at risk, but their faith and souls are caught in the cross hairs as they dig deeper into the order's unholy secret. This film is a spin-off from James Wan's The Conjuring "universe", similar to Annabelle but something else entirely new. The cast also includes Charlotte Hope as the abbey's Sister Victoria, Ingrid Bisu as Sister Oana, and Bonnie Aarons, reprising her Conjuring 2 role as the title character.

Valak, the demon Nun, first horrified audiences in 2016's The Conjuring 2 and now the origin of that supernatural evil is getting its own movie. The music is by Abel Korzeniowski ("Nocturnal Animals").

The Nun will have you "praying for forgiveness" when it hits theaters on September 7!
