Trump Says That Without Otto Warmbier, North Korea Summit Wouldn't Have Happened

Otto Warmbier "did not die in vain" just days after he was released from North Korean custody in 2017, President Donald Trump said Tuesday, since the American college student's death helped initiate a process that led to a historic summit with North Korea. "Hopefully something positive can come from this".

Trump has credited his "maximum pressure" campaign of crippling trade and economic sanctions for bringing Kim to the negotiating table and vowed to keep them in place until North Korea complies with its promises.

The Kims have ruled North Korea since the Soviet Union designated Kim Jong Un's grandfather, Kim ll-Sung, as Communist leader in 1948. I think without Otto, this would not have happened. Otto did not die in vain.

"Otto Warmbier is a very special person and he will be for a long time in my life". "Something happened from that day, was a bad thing". It was brutal. A lot of people started to focus on what was going on, including North Korea'. "He had a lot to do with us being here today".

Warmbier, a 22-year-old University of Virginia student from OH, was imprisoned in North Korea in March 2016 after he was arrested for taking a poster from a hotel he was staying in while on a tourist visit to Pyongyang and sentenced to 15 years of hard labor.

Warmbier, a University of Virginia student from Wyoming, Ohio, died at the age of 22, days after he was returned to the United States in a coma. "I think without Otto this would not have happened".

In May 2015, South Korea's spy agency told lawmakers that Kim had ordered his defense chief executed with an anti-aircraft gun for complaining about the young ruler, talking back to him, and sleeping during a meeting over which he was presiding.

U.S. Senator Rob Portman of OH said on Tuesday that the day he joined Warmbier's parents to welcome their son home almost a year ago "is a constant reminder to me about the evil nature of this regime". People said it's important because it could mean an end to the Korean War.

The parents, Fred and Cindy Warmbier, are suing North Korea alleging that the country violated global law by killing their son.

China shares a border with North Korea and is the country's largest trading partner.
