Will Nashville host the 2026 World Cup?

Wednesday morning, Federation Internationale de Football Association announced that it accepted the United Bid of Canada, Mexico and the United States to host the 2026 World Cup.

The 2026 World Cup will have 48 teams playing a total of 80 games - 60 are planned in the US and 10 each in Canada and Mexico.

Nashville was chosen alongside 22 other cities across the three countries to host potential games and training sites for the tournament.

Arrowhead has experience with Major League Soccer events, having hosted the Kansas City Wizards - now known as Sporting Kansas City - for 12 years and the U.S. Open Cup Final in 2004. Mexico last hosted it in 1986, and Canada has never hosted. The bid book lists Arrowhead's total capacity as 76,640, but about 7,500 of those seats would be used for VIPs and media, leaving the stadium's capacity at just over 69,000 for the World Cup.

Gimenez hopes Miami-Dade will be able to host some of the World Cup 2026 games designated to the United States during the semifinals and benefit economically. Sen.

"This announcement is huge for soccer in the US and maybe even bigger for soccer in Nashville", Butch Spyridon, president and CEO of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp, said. A number of other organizations would help along the way, including Metro Police, the Titans, Trevecca University, and Lipscomb University.

Federation Internationale de Football Association will make the final selection from the 23 cities proposed.

Federation Internationale de Football Association is expected to make a final decision in the next year-and-a-half.
