Six years ago, my Christmas season centered on the arrival of a baby -- our second child, due December 23. As my final weeks of pregnancy coincided with the time when I would normally be busy with holiday preparations, the regular hustle-and-bustle of the season grew along with my belly, but my energy level went in the opposite direction.

I am so PROUD to be a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), led by Bishop Mark Hanson. Watch his video as he expresses concern for and hospitality toward LGBT youth who face bullying.

I value openness and acceptance toward the LGBT community. That, however, was not the main reason I transitioned last fall from serving as a Lutheran pastor to doing freelance copy-editing (including for this web-zine), but it entered in.

Jesus offered us a simple process of co-creation when he taught, "Seek and ye shall find..." How can we find good things for our lives if we do not follow the desire to look for them? And what will we seek if we have not imagined something we want? How do we know where to look unless we apply our intellects to the search?

I believe that humans are equipped with amazing tools of imagination, intellect, and desire. With these brushes God intends us to paint our lives and our world with good things, using them to maximize our capacity for creating love. And what's more, God has filled the universe with unshaped matter, a powerful energy vibrating with anticipation to become the substance of what we create. I call this power the Divine Potential.

I do not believe, as some have taught, that God has the future all prepared for us and we humans only march through a predestined existance. I cannot understand a God who has planned a life of beauty and privilege for some while providing others a life of pain and suffering. How can that be the God who is Love?

We stand at the door of a new year, peering into the distance. What do we see? Are there exciting opportunities, a bright future for our families, and life filled with love and hope? Or, do we see only challenges, bleak economic forecasts, and more frustration and pain? I think many of us only see the horizon of pre-dawn, formless outlines looming in the distance which either scare us or encourage us to venture forth.

In this post, Barry Aneda argues the point with Fundamentalist Christians that homosexuality is simply a sexual orientation just as heterosexuality is a sexual orientation. It argues we should all be treated equally. It also argues that homosexuals should not be demonized or pathologized and lumped into one category or group but rather we should look at all people as an individuals. What do you think?

PRIDE in being gay is not something that comes naturally when we live in a world that tells us we are "evil" and "immoral". For most of us, it is first a road of self-awareness, and then of self-acceptance. We then need to take a further step to determine the consequences of our "Coming Out" to family, friends and co-workers. For many, the losses are not worth revealing the truth and so they remain closeted. This is understandable.
