Seek the Future's Best
Jesus offered us a simple process of co-creation when he taught, "Seek and ye shall find..." How can we find good things for our lives if we do not follow the desire to look for them? And what will we seek if we have not imagined something we want? How do we know where to look unless we apply our intellects to the search?
Notice the passage is not, "Want and you will find." Seeking is an activity, an action verb. You seek with your eyes, your mind, your feet and your heart. It requires commitment and intention. Seeking is investment.
And if you don't seek you will never find.
We frequently seek simple things: today's newspaper, coffee and a donut, our misplaced keys, groceries, a bargain in the New Year's sales. We think of what we need or want and go out after it, adding it to the list of errands and chores. We may not notice, but we put our full attention to these things, act on them and they are accomplished.
Just as easily, we can seek the big things, the important and wonderful things of our lives.
If you unpack "seek and find" from the religion many of us grew up with, we begin to see that it is not only God we pursue in a religious way in our seeking -it is also Life we are encouraged to seek, a life filled with the highest and best we can imagine. I have come to see that all Life is connected, our desire for expanding the Good around us flows into the substance of the Universe creating a healthy person, family, community and planet. Our imaginations and intentions actually add our desires to the cosmic To-Do List and our actions then cause them to become reality.
Seek a cure for AIDS and the Universe will show you how you can help accomplish it. Seek the career you have dreamed of and you will discover the steps to achieve it. Intentionally seek a healthy body and you will find yourself eating better and exercising.
Let us seek to make this the best year of our lives. Dream, seek, and find the Life.
