Hidden in the Open: A Photographic Essay of Afro American Male Couples is a beautiful presentation of african american male gay couples from a history many of us probably didn't know existed. This was first released in 2010. I thought a repeat was in order. PLUS, while cruising YouTube I was especially touched by "A Black Mother and Her Gay Son: A Conversation" from Sampson McCormick. Have a look --

June kicked off the start of Pride celebrations throughout the country. The metro-Detroit area enjoyed Motor City Pride in Ferndale, Mich., at the beginning of the month. Now that we have officially begun the summer season and as we move toward the end of June, Houston, Seattle, Chicago, and San Francisco are getting ready to show their Pride!

It is that time of year; one that I anticipate with a high level of excitement every year. Not only is this the beginning of summer, but this is also the start of the Gay Pride season. Yes, you heard it right! It is time to dust off your rainbow t-shirt, bring out the rainbow hats, and show the world how proud you are to be a member of such a warm and loving community.

Social media, also known as Web 2.0, is not just for businesses that are attempting to increase their web traffic or sales volume. In fact, many individuals have jumped on board with social media and have created personal accounts that allow them to network and meet new people throughout the world. While many find the web applications fascinating and fun, there are quite a few that rely on social media to fulfill a desire that is lacking from their romantic relationship.

Some would think that the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered community would be free from racism, considering that it is a community that experiences discrimination on a daily basis. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Like other cultures, racism continues to be an issue that affects everyone, including homosexuals. The sense of comfort that one senses when they are with those of the same culture is indescribable. In fact, it is quite similar to the feeling and gratification a lesbian or gay male may feel when others who share the same sexual orientation surround them. A sense of belonging, acceptance, and the ability to identify similar life experiences is a wonderful feeling; however, these feelings are the same feelings and way of thinking that contribute to racism and other forms of discrimination.

Racial equality was the defining fight for Martin Luther King, Jr. but he was not known as a supporter of gay rights. It appears daughter Bernice King carries on her father's attitude, and not it seems her mother Coretta Scott King who recognized the commonalities. Bernice King is being encouraged to follow her mother and renounce her anti-gay bigotry, writes NAM contributing editor Earl Ofari Hutchinson.
