In August, VisitDenmark proudly announced the launch of its new LGBT campaign -- cOPENhagen - Open For Everyone -- which highlights and celebrates the welcoming and diverse atmosphere of Copenhagen, Denmark‘s capital city.

With the debut of the cOPENhagen - Open for Everyone LGBT campaign, Denmark builds upon a long-standing history as not only one of the world’s most gay-friendly destinations, but also a pioneer in the movement for gay and lesbian rights. In 1948, the National Association for Gays and Lesbians (LBL), as a first-of-its-kind, was founded in Denmark, and in 1989, the country became the first in the world to recognize marriage between two persons of the same sex. Two decades later, in 2009, Denmark moved to allow married gays and lesbians to adopt -- a law that was finalized in May of this year -- again blazing a path for the rest of the world to follow.
