GAY ASPEN SKI WEEK

By Jessica Arent, Feature Author   Thu, Dec 01, 2011

A fundraising event for The Roaring Fork Gay and Lesbian Community Fund

I moved to Colorado about four months ago, trading Houston’s heat, bayous, and alligators for Rocky Mountains, cold like I have never known, and elk. I was told moving to Colorado would not be a good fit, not because of the climate, but because I am too liberal. I moved to Colorado anyway. It’s been months, and summer gave way to fall and now fall to winter, and very few occasions have given rise to my defense of my beliefs. Realizing, however, that conservatism is prevalent in Colorado by and large, you can imagine my surprise when I heard about Aspen Gay Ski Week!

Having to know for myself if this was a marketing ploy or in truth a gay-friendly event, I surprised my husband with a last-second trip to Aspen overnight. Literally. Seconds. Did I mention my husband doesn’t really appreciate last-second surprises?
