Houston, We Have a Problem: Staying with an Abuser
Stressful occasions, holidays in particular, are likely times for abuse to occur.
So it happened again. You and your lover got into a fight last night, you have a meeting with your co-workers this morning, and you have bruises on your arms and a black eye that you can’t cover up with make-up, no matter how hard you try. The temperature is expected to get up to 95 degrees today; you ask yourself, “Will people ask questions if I wear long sleeves?”
Oh, and not only do you have the heat to contend with; you also have to worry about the fact that it is supposed to be overcast, so sunglasses on an overcast day may bring up some questions, but can you lie to cover the real reason you’re wearing long sleeves on a hot day and sunglasses when the sun isn’t even out? Of course you can. The long sleeves can be explained off by saying you feel cold, you think maybe you’re getting sick, and the sunglasses, well, maybe you had an eye appointment this morning and they dilated your eyes; we all know how painful light is after you get your eyes dilated, so maybe, just maybe, you can go another day hiding the bruises and not having to explain how they happened.
