Abusers and Their Victims: Why Do You Go Back?

The mental and physical distress that the abuser puts the victim through is a very difficult thing for the victim to learn to deal with.

“She hit me again!”

“I’m so afraid of being here when he drinks!”

Many of us have heard these words from friends or family, but what can you do to help someone out when they are in this position? Even if the victim chooses to leave the situation, there is a great chance that she or he will go back into the same situation for various reasons. The reasons may be financial, due to loneliness, or because of lack of support from friends and family. Whatever the reason, do you feel it is your responsibility to provide a different option for the victim to choose?
