Marriage equality debate in Washington State might not be over just yet

The debate over marriage equality lasted a little over two hours in the House, and there was little surprise over who supported the bill and who opposed it.

The Washington State House of Representatives passed a bill Wednesday, February 8, to legalize marriage for gay and lesbian couples. After a couple hours of hearing from various proponents and opponents of the bill, a bipartisan vote of 55-43 resulted in the state becoming the seventh in the country to legalized marriage equality. 

The debate over marriage equality lasted a little over two hours in the House, and there was little surprise over who supported the bill and who opposed it. More than 50 lawmakers had announced their support for marriage equality before the bill came to the floor.
