June means the beginning of the Gay Prides, but what exactly does Gay Pride mean? Are we supposed to be proud that we are gay? Life just might be easier if we were not. We would not have to deal with all the prejudice and ignorance if we were not gay.
Are the Prides the one time of the year that we can let it all hang out and behave in a "really gay" fashion? Would that mean that we were not behaving as gay men and women the rest of the year?
Maybe the Prides are our way of saying, "Hey, we made it another year." We did not get beaten to a pulp for sleeping with our own sex, or maybe we did get beaten to a pulp, pipe to the head, and we just managed to get up and walk again.
Perchance Gay Prides are merely a massive excuse for a party, an opportunity to dance and drink and have some fun.
