It’s New Year’s. January is a time for so many adjectives: Excited. Exhausted. Anticipatory. Hung over. Broke.

I tried to think of something suitably new and “January” for this month’s musing, but I must confess – my brain has exploded into a million pieces and, like Daffy Duck trying to re-glue his feathers or all the King’s Men trying to put Humpty Dumpty together again, I am not sure if I’m up to the task.

My brain shattered some days ago when – amidst the holiday frivolity – I read this previously undiscovered bit of history. OK, to be fair, ALLEGED history.

According to a new book about to be published, President Richard Nixon – the man who secretly carpet-bombed Cambodia (in fairness, it wasn’t a secret to the Cambodians), the spiritual Godfather of the sort of political dirty tricks that led to both Fox News and the modern Presidential campaign, who spewed anti-Semitic slurs, who secretly recorded God-only-knows how many hours of illegally taped conversations, whose National Guard gunned down four student protesters at Kent State in May of 1970, who was the first and only Chief Executive to resign his Presidency in disgrace, possibly the most seemingly sexless politician in our country’s magnificent and horny history – ALLEGEDLY may have been lovers with his best friend, Bebe Rebozo. cover photo of Nixon with "Bebe" Rebozo at Key Biscayne, Florida from the book
