Breckenridge Has It -- Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer…..

By Jessica Arent, Feature Author   Sat, Oct 01, 2011

With a total population of less than 4,500, you might think Breckenridge, Colorado, is "no-man’s land." Nothing, however, could be further from the truth.

When my husband asked if I wanted to spend the weekend in Breckenridge last week, I wondered what he was thinking; too cold for river rafting and not yet cold enough to ski -- what the heck were we going to do all weekend long?

Summer in Breckenridge beckons you to river sports, like fly-fishing and rafting. A cooler full of your favorite libations and an innertube or raft is the perfect way to spend a day in the sun. Events throughout summer include a huge patriotic 4th of July celebration (parade in the morning and fireworks at night) and even a film festival. Winter, because of the terrain and location at the base of more than 14 ski slopes, speaks to the skier at all levels, from beginner to advanced, whispering a “pied piper's song" of promising days “swooshing” down white, powdery mountains.

October FestFall, on the other hand, turned out to be something altogether spectacular there. It was Oktoberfest in Breckenridge when we went, and just as the festival title might suggest, Breckenridge became quite the hamlet to what seemed like thousands milling the main street and partaking of epicurean fare and brew masters' delights, sure to please the most discriminating taste buds!
