The bad news is that sometimes we tend to emulate and incorporate our own personal conditioning and experience as a child and model the behavior we ourselves experienced. The good news is that there is a better alternative that allows for maintaining control but is respectful, encouraging, and permits the child to accept responsibility for behavior. It is a good option because it also promotes cooperation in place of possible rebellion or vengeful reactions.
