I Am the Face of Marriage Equality: Elaine and Ramona Roth-Nichols
Meeting by Chance. Loving by Choice.
Let's travel northeast of Nashville to the semi-rural part of Tennessee. Here, we find Elaine and Ramona Roth-Nichols, a charming couple who have been inseparable now for over 23 years. Here they live with their two dogs and four cats. Elaine, 57, and Ramona, 55, are as much in love today as they were "way back when," if not more so.
They met by chance in a lawnmower shop where Elaine worked as a parts manager. Ramona had come in to have her mower repaired, and got more than she bargained for! There was an immediate attraction between the two of them. “Ramona’s lawnmower received the royal treatment for next to nothing, and boy, was she thrilled!” Elaine reminisces.
The following spring -- April 15th, to be exact -- Elaine and Ramona began their romance and have been together ever since. After 21 years together, they decided to marry, and on May 21, 2009, they travelled to Provincetown, Massachusetts, where they tied the knot. May 21st is the anniversary they celebrate.
